IELTS (International English Language Testing System) is an English language exam that is required if you want to study or work in a country where English is the main language of communication. There are two different ways to conduct the
IELTS exam which is computer based IELTS and paper based IELTS.
1. Candidates who choose the IELTS computer-based test have to perform the listening, writing and reading section on the computer whereas the speaking test is conducted face to face by a professional IELTS examiner.
2. Candidates who choose the IELTS paper-based
test have to perform the listening, writing and reading section on paper with
either HB pencil or pen. Whereas, the speaking test is conducted face to face
by a professional IELTS examiner.
Why IELTS exam required?
As we know IELTS exam is required for study as well as work purpose abroad in English speaking countries like Australia, UK, USA, New Zealand and Canada. IELTS is the only English language test approved by UK visas and immigration (UKVI) for visa applicants applying both outside and inside the UK. IELTS is very important while you want to study or work in English speaking countries because the foreign universities and visa authorities need to be sure that you will not have any communication issue while you are staying in the country. Through IELTS score you can show your good understanding and strong command of English language and that is why your overall IELTS band score are so important. Many students have common doubt about IELTS is the compulsory exam or not. IELTS is not compulsory in all university’s admission. But remember that if you don’t give IELTS exam your chance of getting student visa might suffer. So, it is safer to appear in IELTS and aim to score at least 6 band overall.

Two types of IELTS exam
1. IELTS academic

2. IELTS general training.

Education Eligibility
There is no IELTS
eligibility criteria set by the IDP or British Council. Anyone who want to
study abroad and want to work abroad can attempt IELTS exam. However, candidate
should always check the eligibility criteria set by the educational
institutions or organization where they can apply.

Once your registration is
complete, you will see a confirmation on your computer screen (you may print
and keep this with you for future reference). A copy of the confirmation will
also be sent in hard copy or on your registered email address
You’ll need to courier a
photocopy of your Passport (first and last page), and any observation pages to
the IDP Head Office (address provided below). Failing which you will NOT be
allowed to sit the test. Candidates need to carry original passport on test
day.

IELTS Exam Syllabus
IELTS Syllabus includes
four sections, Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing. Students get marked
on these four sections and get the IELTS total score as well. Aspirants show
know how to approach each section of the IELTS. The total score is the sum of
the scores in the four skill areas. The total test duration is 2 hours and 45
minutes.
How is IELTS Scored?
IELTS is designed to assess English language skills at all levels. Your total IELTS score will be a combination of the band scores from the four sections. You will receive IELTS scores based on each of the four skills on a band of 1 – 9, and you will also be awarded an overall band score. You can score whole (example 5.0, 6.0, 7.0) or half (example 5.5, 6.5, 7.5) bands in each part of the test. You need to have some idea about how the scoring pattern works to better understand how your IELTS score will be calculated.
How to get your IELTS
Exam Result?
Once you are done with
the IELTS, then comes your wait for the result. The good thing about these
exams is that the results are usually declared within a fortnight. In this
case, if you have given the computer-based exam, your results will be declared
within 3-5 days or within a week.
Offline Mode:
For offline or paper-based tests, you will receive your results within 13
calendar days from the day of your exam.
Online Mode:
Candidates will receive the results of computer-delivered tests within 3-5
days. On the day of your result, you will receive an intimation from your Test
Centre about the results. You can simply log in with your ID, password,
passport number, and test date information to view your result. From the time
of declaration of result, your results will be available online for the next 28
days.
